HD-Link screen ratio on HDMI

Hello.
I was wondering if there was any way to change the screen ratio on the HD-Link product over HDMI.
On the BMW CIC screen, the ratio is too wide and causes a lot of distortion. Could it be forced to 16x9 with black bars on the side somehow?
Is there a possible firmware update to fix this?
